Scott Sorkin concentrates his practice on representing insurance companies in regulatory matters and significant transactions. For over twenty-five years, he has provided guidance to his insurance clients on a variety of regulatory, transactional, corporate, coverage, and legislative matters. Scott has considerable experience and regularly assists his insurance clients with licensure, product development, including policy drafting and obtaining approval of their rates and forms and other regulatory filings, financial and market conduct examinations and compliance, regulatory action matters, insurance holding company filings, including Form A acquisition applications, premium and income tax matters, corporate governance, data security and privacy matters, and legislation. Scott’s transactional practice also includes organization and capitalization, mergers and acquisitions, conversions and restructurings, redomestications, reinsurance agreements, fronting arrangements, loss portfolio transfers, and third-party administration and management agreements. In addition to traditional companies, he also represents risk retention groups, captives and other alternative risk transfer vehicles, and other regulated entities and professionals, including producers. In addition to being an active member of the Federation of Regulatory Counsel, he is a member of the Insurance Regulation Committee of the American Bar Association’s Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section, the Association of Insurance Compliance Professionals, and the Virginia State Bar. He also regularly attends National Association of Insurance Commissioners meetings. Scott is a graduate of Virginia Tech and graduated cum laude from the University of Richmond School of Law.
